Marsannay Pinot Noir
Just south of the outskirts of Dijon we find Marsannay, the northernmost village of the Cote de Nuits. Marsannay's wines are not well known, since growers were given the right to bottle their wines under the appellation "Marsannay" only in 1987. Despite its northern location, most red Marsannays are fruity, enjoyable wines to be drunk young. The best have a depth of rich fruit flavors and usually come from old vines. Marsannay is also noted for its Roses made from Pinot Noir. They have a salmon/pink color and a fine fruity nose. Dry and flavorful, the key is good acidity to balance the fruit and a clean, refreshing finish.
