In Givry only red wine is made from Pinot Noir.Once well known and much in demand (in fact, Givry was reputed to be the favorite wine of the French King, Henry IV), destruction by phylloxera in the late 1800's and two World Wars led to its decline.Today, it is still under-appreciated in the United States and often represents excellent value. You should look for pure fruit with nuances of cherries and fine flowery fragrance. They do not usually have the depth and body of a Mercurey, but make this up in style and finesse.A well-made Givry is at its best 5 to 7 years from the vintage.
