We opened our doors in 1988 in a shoe box sized store in the West Village, catering to Burgundy collectors around the country. In September 2002, we moved to our new store at 143 West 26th Street, so we would have the space to invite you in - to visit, browse, taste and learn more about the wines we offer.
We know that finding a wine you're sure to like, regardless of its origins, is like navigating your way through a foreign country without a road map. French wines can be especially difficult since the labels often require some level of knowledge or expertise. But there are delights and treasures to be found on the wine route - on well traveled roads and in little known villages. If you're willing to explore, we would like to be your guide.
Our wines are hand selected for quality, typicity and taste. We don't buy or offer wines based on ratings or reviews. Ratings don't reflect the personality of a wine, and reviews don't tell the whole story. We prefer to do our own tasting and make our own decisions based on that experience, together with our knowledge of the vintage, the vineyards and the producers. Our selections reflect our taste, our expertise and our passion. We want to share that with you.

We open wine nightly during the week and invite you to join us to taste from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The tastings are free. We also host winemaker tastings. Please see the Events Page for a current calendar. All burgundy is red right?
No, actually wines produced in Burgundy are both red and white. The red wines are made from Pinot Noir. The white wines are made from Chardonnay. Chablis is the grape?
No, Chablis is the region. The grape varietal used to make Chablis is Chardonnay. What do Burgundies taste like?
Big question! The whites range from flintly, crisp, mineral wines from Chablis to steely Puligny-Montrachets to lusicious, honeysuckle and toasted hazelnut Meursaults. As we move south to the Macon, the wines gain richness and weight, but rarely resemble typical California Chardonnay. The reds range from silky, elegant Volnays to black fruit loaded, powerhouse Gevrey-Chambertins to red/black cherry, sexy Chambolle-Musignys. What is the grape varietal(s) of Croze-Hermitage and St. Joseph?
Syrah I thought the 1997 vintage was panned for Oregon wines? Why are you
promoting them?
Because some vintages just need time to come around. The press needs a story. The story was '97 was a difficult vintage and were not drinking well at the start. However, we have opened numerous bottles of '97 recently and enjoyed the integrated fruit. In fact the 1997 Thomas was hit at a recent tasting, over the several '99s.
